THE GEORGE INNNewmarket : Nailsworth : Gloucestershire
|
| The moment you step into this small but delightful
little pub, tucked away among the hills surrounding the village of Nailsworth, an air of
friendliness and ageless comfort embrace you. Original oak beams, stone flagged floors and
the refreshing odour of frequently polished furniture give The George the homeliness of a
genuine English inn. Here, good beer and good food join to make your journey really worthwhile. The George is one of only 65 pubs in the Bristol/Gloucestershire area to feature in the Good Beer Guide with an excellent choice of real ales, lagers and cider. |
*
| All food is freshly prepared by international award winning chef, David de Sousa with his speciality being, Chicken Piri-Piri at £9.75 Half a chicken off the bone, finished in a garlic & chilli marinade. A dish to die for! Equally recommended, as are many other, more traditional English dishes, are Mushroom Stroganoff with Rice and Confit of Duck Leg on Braised Red Cabbage. And for fish lovers, Halibut Steak with an Anchovy Sauce and Swordfish Steak in a White Wine and Mushroom Sauce freshly prepared and served to order are an experience to be savoured. All Main Courses are served with Fresh Vegetables or Salad, with Sauté Potatoes (or chips if you prefer). |

| Your meal can be accompanied with a excellent bottle of wine
from a limited but very well chosen wine list. Like many good food pubs, the George offers a choice of smoking or non-smoking areas and quick and tasty snacks are always available. To reach The George one should leave the Stroud to Bath road in the small town of Nailsworth and meander into the town centre. There it is as well to ask a passer-by, which will be well worth the effort. Newmarket lies less than a mile through the town on a road that really leads nowhere else. * Bob Pike and David de Sousa are always ready to offer you a personal welcome. If you intend dining, however, booking is essential. Telephone 01453 833228 Visa, MasterCard - Switch & Delta are accepted |
