The Stratford While the building, originally two large houses, is getting on for 100 years old, the Stratford is somewhat younger. Converted in the mid twentieth century and then renovated again in the early nineties, this well loved watering-hole is among the most popular in Stroud.

Two female ghosts are known to wander the upstairs rooms during the night and have been seen on more than one occasion. Steven Smart, the joint owner, is unsure whether they once lived in one of the two houses or an earlier building, as their dress appears to be mid 1800s.

The Stratford is very much a community pub, although boasting excellent function facilities, and enjoys being the centre of many local sporting activities. Owners Steve Smart and Anthony Graham encourage all the usual bar games, including skittles, and sponsor a local football team.

During our lunch-time visit, the bar was busy with pub lunches and a large screen television. The atmosphere was convivial and entertaining. Food prices at The Stratford are exceptionally reasonable, being a community pub, and the food is varied and of good quality.

Conference Functions at The Stratford are not only well catered for but the prices are startlingly low. The room on the left, which seats 50, will be let for £40 a day or half a day for £20. Coffee etc can be added to this but again, the prices are very reasonable.
Weddings are also catered for with up to 150 guests utilising 3 adjacent and connecting rooms, the centre one having a private bar. All three rooms can be hired for the whole day for only £100 allowing separated, but not isolated, disco and bar lounge. Catering for these functions can also be arranged. Weddings
