THE OLD SPOT INN

May Lane : Dursley

CAMRA
"PUB OF THE YEAR"
2008

Built in 1776, Dursley's character pub, The Old Spot Inn, (located right next to the bus station) has a reputation of being the epitome of an English real ale pub. With the old English atmosphere of taverns long gone, the cosiness embraces you the moment you walk through the door. There are no juke boxes or fruit machines here, just excellent, real beer for the real beer enthusiast.
.
Among the local favourites are "Uley Old Ric" named after the pub's retired owner.    "Badger" IPA is always available along with a selection of at least five other ales

Real Ales at Realistic Prices There are over eighty guest beers a year on offer, personally chosen by Landlord Steve Herbert. And to be assured of continued high standards, these beers are chosen only from  independent breweries.  Among these may be: Greene King Abbot, Timothy Taylor Landlord, Uley, Exmoor Ales, Adnams, Thwaite, and Goffs of Hampshire, Ledbury & Bath.
Listed among Britain's top 500 pubs, and a regular winner of the top awards in Gloucestershire, not least "Pub of the Year" 2000, The Old Spot Inn is a must for those passing through with time to linger. Pub of the Year

spot_board1_alt.jpg (32021 bytes) Food at the Old Spot is typical of the olden days of English pubs when local favourites dominated the blackboard and travellers could expect the highest quality at reasonable prices.

On our visit, the Sausages and Mash at £5.25 was magnificent - not to put too fine a point on it. When the choice of sausage truly represents the genuinely traditional English style of cooking, it is the savouring of herbs and spices that make the difference between average and  exceptional sausage.

Other traditional favourites include huge Door-step Sandwiches of fresh crusty bread at between £2.75 and £3.45, and Ploughman's Lunches with a choice of three cheeses or ham for under £5.00.

It is truly a pleasure and a memorable experience to visit a genuine English pub selling real ale at its best and good food at sensible prices. When visiting Dursley, ask for the bus-station. The Old Spot is located right next door.
