WWT was founded by the artist and naturalist, the late Sir Peter Scott, in 1946 on the banks of the River Severn in Gloucestershire.  Sir Peter believed in bringing wildlife and people together for the benefit of both and we are proud to continue his work. Today, WWT runs eight centres around the UK, including one each in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. Each is different, but all are important for wetland wildlife. If you enjoy your visit to Slimbridge – pick up a brochure and visit one of our other Centres.

A great day out.    Visit WWT Slimbridge and get really close to some fascinating wildlife – ducks, geese and swans from all over the world. You’ll have a fun day out and gain a fantastic insight into conservation in action. WWT Slimbridge has the world’s largest collection of exotic wildfowl and is the only place in Europe where you can see all six types of flamingo.

In winter, up to 8,000 wild birds fly in to this 800 acre reserve on the River Severn.  Towers and hides enable you to see this incredible wildlife spectacle, often just a few feet away.  There is something for bird watchers of all abilities – especially children – with always the chance of a rarity.

Admire luxurious plants, flowers and beautiful tropical birds in the atmospheric Tropical House and explore the Wonder of Wetlands – an exciting indoor exhibit, with video, computer game and large tanks of coral fish, peat land plants and freshwater fish.

Always something different. There’s so much to see at WWT Slimbridge, whatever the time of year. Don’t forget, we’re open every day except Christmas Day.

Spring.   See fluffy ducklings, goslings and cygnets take their first faltering steps in the world.

Autumn.  Look out for wading birds migrating to Africa and admire the ducks coming into bright new breeding plumage.

Winter.  Marvel at one of the last great wildlife spectacles - thousands of wild, wintering ducks, geese and swans on the reserve.

Summer.  Enjoy walks among a myriad of beautiful wetland wildflowers.
