and is perfectly situated for a comfortable
and peaceful stay at any time of the year. . The oldest building on the site is the chapel, built and dated 1805. The schoolhouse was added in 1861 and served the local community for well over a century before being converted into a hotel in the early 1980s. We also have the 'new classroom' at the rear of the hotel, built 1895 and containing two peaceful bedrooms with a large conference room and smaller interview room downstairs. . The Old Schoolhouse is family owned. We offer a country house hotel ambience, comfort, good food, a superb wine cellar and excellent value for money. We also have quiet and private conference facilities. |

The hotel has ten elegant, spacious and well equipped bedrooms. All are decorated to the highest standard and are fully en-suite, with direct dial telephones, tea and coffee trays, hairdryer, clock-radio and colour T.V. All are heated with individual room controls. |
| There is a peaceful drawing room where guests can sit in front of an open fire and enjoy a drink before dining in our excellent restaurant. We make all our food personally on the premises, and would be delighted to help if you would like to take over the whole restaurant for a special occasion. In the summer, guests can sit outside on the terrace and enjoy the view to the Cotswolds. | ![]() |
| A little Local
History..... . The Vale of Berkeley stretches some 25 miles along the Severn Estuary and is bound on the eastern side by the Cotswold Hills. North of the Vale lies the ancient city of Gloucester, called Glevum by the Romans, and to the South is Bristol, already important in medieval times when it reached even greater importance as a port during the slave trade. . Berkeley lies in the centre of the Vale, and is dominated by the magnificent 12th Century Berkeley Castle. This fortress home is still inhabited by the Berkeley family. It was in the castle's dungeons that Edward II was brutally murdered in 1327. A century earlier the barons of England had foregathered in the great hall before forcing King John to travel to Runneymede to sign the Magna Carta, widely thought of as the foundation of democracy. |
