roseandcrown-bar1.jpg (11645 bytes) This grand old lady is over 400 years old and looks it. Like a great and loveable matriarch, she dominates the tiny hamlet of Nympsfield, midway between Stroud and Dursley. Her reputation for excellence however, spreads much further afield. Owners, Joseph and Sharon Stocks, along with international chef, James Cupper, set a new standard for country inns with their flair for good wholesome cuisine. Throughout the Cotswolds and the Gloucestershire countryside The Rose & Crown's hospitality has become synonimous with good food and first class service.  As you check out of this heart-warming venue, the intention to return is certain to be at the front of your mind. roseandcrown-bar2.jpg (13003 bytes)
Apart from the peace and quiet - the nearest major road is a mile in any direction - the friendliness of the locals and other visitors is quite contageous. The intimacy of the small bars, and the elegant restaurant add a taste of gentle English country life that is difficult, if not impossible, to find anywhere else.

The bar boasts an exceptional range of real ales, including Uley Brewery's "Old Spot" and "Uley Bitter", Wickwar's "B.O.B.", Ruddles Best, Bass, Wadworth's "6X" and Hoskins' & Oldfield's "Old Navigation".

roseandcrown-rest.jpg (13684 bytes) THE RESTAURANT
The high class restaurant comforts guests with soft decor, white table cloths and dark oak furniture - candle-lit in the evenings. The range of dishes on offer is extensive. The à la carte menu stretches to over 30 choices with starters, main courses and desserts to suit all tastes, including a wide selection of vegetarian dishes and children's favourites. However, some of the countryside's oldest staples prepared as a result of popular demand by international chef, James Cupper, deserve a special mention. There are traditonal pies, and very full they are too, from £6.75 to £7.25, and Home Made Faggots at £6.75 and prepared in James's own special way, Sausage & Mash at £6.50. And The Mixed Grill at £11.50 is a challenge worth indulging anyone's appetite.  All, of course can be accompanied by your choice of wine from a very good wine list.

Booking is a must as the restaurant fills very quickly on most nights of the week.
